Nominated by: Hunter Guindon

Elected Official’s Name: Karla Bernard

Riding: Charlottetown-Victoria Park, Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island

How did they Get Loud?:
Karla has supported our fight for access to CF modulators from day one. The first time I e-mailed Karla, she responded the same day, and enthusiastically offered her full support. She immediately re-arranged her schedule so that we could meet within a couple of days. Our first meeting was a success. Karla attentively listened to my concerns and worked hard to understand the challenges we were facing. She got to work that same day, looking at creative ways to help amplify our voices, get our message heard, and create change.

Since that first meeting, and as our advocacy situation developed, Karla and I have exchanged countless e-mails, and had several meetings. Karla has also been instrumental in connecting me with her colleagues, other MLA's, and knowledgeable government officials to move our agenda forward. Karla has always made herself available to hear my concerns, do research to help find solutions, and to bring my voice to government decision makers to keep this issue top of mind. Karla's work for the PEI CF community is admirable.

Karla has brought our message to the floor of the legislature on several occasions with member statements, and has asked for clear, concise commitments from the Minister of Health. Outside of sitting weeks, she has engaged with government on this topic, both federally and provincially, many times.

Without Karla's hard work, dedication, and tireless advocacy, islanders with CF would not hold as much hope as we do for the future. Karla is the quarterback of PEI's CF community, and I know she'll help us get this ball into the end zone!

Thank you Karla!
